What can I Expect when I begin to Meditate or become part of a Meditation Circle?

This is a question I found myself asking when I began. And this is what I discovered.

If you have never tried to meditate before, becoming part of a circle for awhile would be very beneficial as the experienced meditators, help the novice move into the state of meditation by the process of just being with them or like I like to call it by osmosis.

One first begins to feel more at ease with the world and life. Definitely less stressed. Many of those that have come to circles I have been apart of, have found this the lifesaver in a very stressful lifestyle, whether it be a stressful job, relationship or any other number or combinations of stresses which we all deal with in our daily life. Meditation helps one create a time which is devoted to quiet and calm. A space away from every day worries and obligations.

Sometimes the beginner finds that his or her mind cannot help thinking about the day’s activities or problems which are in his/her life. Do not fault yourself for these, allow them to float through your mind and do not hold onto them. Eventually they will stop. They are distractions which your ego is creating because you are pursuing something different and it, the ego is trying to protect itself. That is why guided meditations seem to help, by taking you on a mental journey, your own thoughts are allowed to come to a halt and lets you experience a mental holiday.

Guided meditations’ main purpose is to occupy your mind to the point where you move into a state of meditation. It is not unusual for meditators listening to these to come out of the meditation not remembering anything. Not remembering anything has allowed one to move into the silence, the real goal of all meditation. This is a place of infinite healing for the mind and the body. Savor the times when you reach this depth of meditation.

Sometimes right away, but usually after some time of having been meditating, you begin to have images, thoughts or colors come into your awareness. These are very different from the thoughts you normally perceive. Again allow these to float through your mind. These experiences first seem like your mind has developed a fantastic ability to imagine and how could it be anything else? When this starts, it is a good time to again be in the environment of a reputable meditation circle. The facilitator and other members will help you see that you really are not going crazy or out of your mind, but that these experiences are part of your own healing and development, and can represent many facets of who you really are. Always question what you experience and ask for confirmations.

If you are part of a group, someone in the group may say or verify what you have experienced. If you are not able to participate in a group, find someone who understands what you are going through. This may be a trusted friend or family member or a reputable psychic. Confirmation always helps to keep you feeling your sanity is intact.

When you are a part of a meditation circle which meets regularly, there is a trust that develops with the members and when that trust has created strong enough bonds between the members, people begin to experience some interesting things. Sometimes they join one another’s experiences. Sometime they will have similar experiences from different perspectives. And sometimes one member will have a message for another. These are all part of the subtle workings of being in a meditation development circle.

Having been a member and a facilitator of a number of groups, every experience is unique and never seizes to amaze me. They are all full of magic and they are all wonders of the unseen world in which we live.
