A few weeks ago one of my colleagues suggested that I write an article on “Finding the silence in the noise and then finding the noise in the silence.” The more I thought about this, the more I knew it would be an article that others may enjoy. So here it is.
By moving inward it is possible to find both the silence and peace in a world that is a never ending treadmill of activity. It becomes necessary to retreat into self to find the calm in a continuous storm of daily responsibilities to the world, your family and friends, and finally yourself.
The activities in life represent the experiences we have to further our understanding of ourselves, but we do not totally integrate them until we take some time to reflect or to move within and quiet ourselves so that we can better comprehend those experiences. These understandings can be made on conscious and subconscious levels.
Meditation techniques in any format help us to bring ourselves to a sanctuary within. Some formats are Yoga, Tai Chi, Breathing meditations and so on. Even taking a walk alone in nature, letting your mind drift while you are doing household chores or driving a vehicle, are types of meditations. Meditation once learned and practiced allows one to move into the silence even in crowded places like a bus, a park, or a shopping mall, etc.
Consequences of not taking some downtime to integrate usually results in one becoming unwell physically, mentally, and emotionally. And instead of choosing to retreat, one is forced into inactivity by some form of illness.
By giving oneself the gift of a short period of time a few times a week, one begins to reach the silence within. That is the mind comes to a total standstill or quiet. And when one reaches the depths of the silence, one has reached the inner most healing space in our psyche. Tapping into this venereal fountain of energy allows us to heal those outer developments of physical, mental and emotional distress. For example, one physical condition that has been proven to be helped by meditation is the lowering of high blood pressure.
When one has integrated the experiences, begun to heal them and understand them on all levels, the silence can then become the void and can then bring the noise of the unconscious and subconscious part of your being into your conscious awareness. These can be very dreamlike as this noise is very much like what your body does when it dreams.
This noise can come to you as visual images, auditory sounds and thoughts, and feeling sensations. It is important not to judge these, but to just allow them to happen and flow through you. By acknowledging them you allow yourself the gift of awareness of these inner experiences. Remember meditation is not like sleep, because you are fully conscious when you are in a meditative state.
In many cases this inner noise brings you the seeds of new understanding and other ways in which to see yourself. Therefore bringing you new experiences into your conscious life.
And as we have free will, daily life can resume or continue as it has been or you begin to make changes which your new insights and understanding has brought you.
The inner noise in the silence can be thought of as guidance from your soul requesting that you grow and evolve into your highest potential. With greater understanding comes the strength to continue this journey called life. The silence brings you the quiet and calm between each new burst of growth and activity and allows you to integrate all into your being. Together they offer you a way to bring balance into your being. And balance brings harmony and peace within. Outside forces cannot undo this and so you live life from an expanded and enlightened state of awareness.
Human beings are very complex beings, who are in continual flux or change to further ones own and all of humanities growth and evolution. By embracing the silence in the noise of daily living and then embracing the noise in the silence of one’s own being, each individual helps the rest of humankind begin to understand, grow and evolve into who we already are…perfect beings of love and light.
